We asked a skincare professional what she uses at home

What does a skincare professional reach for when caring for her own skin? We asked a CIDESCO-trained beauty therapist, mindfulness practitioner and founder of Nordic Sanctuary in Norway to share the habits she returns to and her personal favourites from SKØN Skincare.

Her approach leaves room for thoughtful care and everyday pleasure: gentle cleansing, nourishing textures, daily sun protection and a few quiet moments to enjoy it all. Here, she takes us through her morning and evening routine, with practical tips to bring into your own.

Make skincare a moment for yourself

I have looked after my skin since I was a teenager, and many of those early habits have stayed with me. Through my work in skincare and wellbeing, I have become increasingly interested in how a routine fits into everyday life. It needs to be something you can comfortably return to, even on a busy day.

For me, skincare and mindfulness sit naturally together. Cleansing my face or applying a cream offers a brief opportunity to slow down and pay attention to how my skin feels.

At Nordic Sanctuary, I work with Scandinavian beauty and wellness products that I feel confident recommending. SKØN’s attention to both skincare and the sensory experience of using it fits beautifully with that approach.

Try this at home: Give yourself a little time to apply your products. Use gentle movements and notice how your skin feels, rather than automatically adding another step.

In the evening, begin with cleansing

If I were to highlight one habit, it would be removing makeup and the day’s impurities before bed. I use a cleansing oil to help dissolve makeup, then complete the cleansing process according to the product’s instructions.

For me, a good cleanse leaves the skin feeling comfortable. Tightness or stinging is not the result to aim for.

Try this at home: Use lukewarm water and a light touch. You do not need to scrub your skin to cleanse it thoroughly.

Triple Booster Serum — my choice for radiance

Triple Booster Serum by SKØN is one of my personal favourites. I particularly enjoy the radiance it gives my skin and how soft and cared for it feels afterwards.

Its nourishing oil texture makes this a step I enjoy when my skin needs extra softness and comfort. It is also a reminder that the feel of a product matters: a routine is easier to maintain when you look forward to using it.

Try this at home: Start with a small amount and adjust to your skin’s needs. Using more does not necessarily give a better result.

Dermashield SPF 50 — before makeup

Sun protection is a regular part of my morning routine. I use Dermashield SPF 50 as the final step in my skincare, before makeup.

Apply a generous, even layer before sun exposure and reapply according to the product’s instructions, including after swimming, sweating or towel drying.

Try this at home: Keep sunscreen as a separate step. Avoid mixing it with serum or makeup, as this can lead to uneven coverage.

A considered approach to exfoliation

Exfoliation has long been part of my routine, but how often you use it should depend on your skin and the particular product.

There is no need to pursue a perfectly smooth surface every day. Skin has texture, and a routine should leave it feeling comfortable.

Try this at home: Follow the product’s instructions and begin cautiously. Take a break from exfoliation if your skin becomes red, sore or irritated.

My morning and evening routine

The routine I return to is straightforward, with room to adjust according to how my skin feels.

In the morning

  1. Cleanse gently, according to the skin’s needs.

  2. Apply a small amount of Triple Booster Serum.

  3. Follow with a face cream if needed.

  4. Apply Dermashield SPF 50.

  5. Finish with makeup, if desired.

In the evening

  1. Remove makeup and sunscreen with a suitable cleanser.

  2. Exfoliate on selected days, if the skin tolerates it.

  3. Finish with a nourishing night cream or a mask intended for overnight use.

Makeup that lets skin look like skin

For everyday wear, I enjoy a simple look with mineral powder. When I want a little more, I add warm shades around the eyes, a touch of highlighter and gloss.

For me, makeup is about bringing out what is already there and allowing the skin’s natural character to remain part of the finished look.

Questions about your skincare routine

Does everyone need a serum?

No. A serum is an optional extra, chosen according to your skin’s needs. A simple routine can consist of cleansing, moisturising and appropriate sun protection.

How often should I exfoliate?

That depends on the product and your skin’s tolerance. Follow the instructions, start cautiously and reduce the frequency if your skin reacts.

When should I apply sunscreen?

As the final step in your skincare routine, before makeup. Apply it evenly and in the amount recommended by the product.

How should I interpret a professional’s personal favourites?

A professional’s own routine offers an insight into the products she enjoys using. It is a useful starting point for discovery, while your own choices should reflect your skin’s needs, preferences and the products you already use.
