At S:KØN Skincare, ingredients are not about trends, dogma or black-and-white thinking. Our approach is based on function, safety and the bigger picture – with the aim of developing cosmetic skincare defined by quality, transparency and professional integrity.
We work exclusively with vegan ingredients and without animal-derived raw materials. Only ingredients that serve a clear professional purpose within a given formulation are included.
NATURAL AND LABORATORY-DEVELOPED INGREDIENTS - A CONSCIOUS BALANCE
Our formulations are primarily based on ingredients of natural origin, selected for their well-established properties and cosmetic use. At the same time, we take a pragmatic, knowledge-based approach and also use laboratory-developed ingredients when they are considered the most appropriate choice.
Laboratory-developed ingredients may be included when they contribute to improved stability and consistency, have well-documented cosmetic use and safety, reduce pressure on natural resources, or enable a more controlled and responsible supply of raw materials.
For us, the focus is not on origin alone, but on how an ingredient performs within a formulation, how it is documented, and the overall impact it creates. All laboratory-developed ingredients we use are based on natural principles and can be professionally explained and justified.

HOW WE APPROACH COSMETIC FORMULATION
A cosmetic formulation is a system. Ingredients are never evaluated in isolation, but in relation to one another, the skin’s tolerance, product stability, and intended use, texture and shelf life.
Each product therefore begins with a fundamental question:
What is this product meant to do – and what does the skin genuinely need in this context?
Formulations are then developed based on documented knowledge of ingredient properties and cosmetic application. Only ingredients that actively contribute to the overall formulation are included in the final product.
SAFETY, DOCUMENTATION AND PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION
All ingredient choices are based on available documentation and established cosmetic use. Product development takes place in close collaboration with pharmacists, biochemists, raw material suppliers and manufacturers, with safety, skin tolerance and stability as key parameters.
We continuously follow developments in ingredient safety, formulation technology, raw material innovation and regulatory assessments. When new knowledge becomes available, it naturally informs our ongoing work and evaluations.
PATENTED INGREDIENTS AND EXTERNAL TESTING
In several of our products containing active ingredients – including selected serums and creams – we work with ingredients that are part of patented raw material systems.
When an ingredient is patented, it means that its development, composition or production process is the result of documented research and development. Patented ingredients are typically characterised by thorough investigation of their stability, use and safety within a cosmetic context.
For S:KØN, the use of patented ingredients is not about exclusivity, but about working with well-documented and carefully developed raw materials supported by a solid professional foundation.
In addition, several of our products containing active ingredients are dermatologically tested by independent external testing laboratories. These tests are conducted to assess skin tolerance and suitability and serve as a supplement to our internal formulation considerations and safety assessments.
External testing is part of our commitment to safe and well-documented cosmetic products, not a guarantee of individual results.
