What’s the deal about SPF?

SPF describes protection against UVB radiation under test conditions. It does not tell you how long you can stay in the sun, and SPF alone does not describe UVA protection.

What should you look for?

Choose broad-spectrum protection, use the amount and reapplication frequency on the label, and combine sunscreen with shade and clothing. If you swim or sweat, choose a suitable water-resistant product and follow its instructions.
