Fýri Resort where mountain days become lingering evenings
Fýri Resort where mountain days become lingering evenings - SKØN JOURNAL / TRAVEL
Some holidays are planned around everything you want to do. Others begin with a feeling: cold air on your cheeks, warm water around your shoulders and the prospect of dinner somewhere you have no intention of rushing.
Fýri Resort, in Norway’s Hemsedal mountains, makes a persuasive case for both.
In this SKØN Journal series, we explore the hotels and destinations where you can discover our skincare, sharing the surrounding landscape, places to eat and small pleasures worth making time for. At Fýri, you will find SKØN among the hotel’s shopping selection — another way to take a little of the holiday home.
But first, the mountains.
A mountain escape with a sociable spirit
Hemsedal gives you plenty of reasons to get outside. Fýri gives you a few very good reasons to come back in.
The resort combines mountain surroundings with restaurants, fireside drinks and its distinctive Pool Club. There is room for an active morning and an indulgently unhurried afternoon, followed by an evening that gradually acquires plans of its own.
We would choose Fýri for a couple’s escape or a few days with friends, particularly when everyone has a slightly different idea of a holiday. One person can head outdoors while another makes a convincing argument for staying by the pool. Meeting again for dinner requires very little negotiation.
Explore Fýri Resort to get a feel for the setting.
Choose a room you will enjoy returning to
There is a particular pleasure in closing the door after a day outside and knowing that the next thing on your itinerary is getting comfortable.
Fýri’s rooms and suites use natural materials and muted colours, with options ranging from doubles to larger accommodation for families and friends. If the view is part of your reason for travelling, look specifically at the Mountain View category. Superior rooms offer more space and armchairs for those afternoons when going out again can wait.
Our advice is to choose for the hours between activities as well as the nights. A comfortable chair becomes surprisingly important when you finally have time to read.
Warm water with a mountain backdrop
The Fýri Pool Club is a substantial part of the attraction: indoor and outdoor heated pools, water advertised at 35°C, a sauna and places to stretch out between swims.
This is wellness with a social rhythm. Music, drinks and daybeds shape the experience, making it easy to spend an afternoon moving between the water and a comfortable place to sit.
We would give it a proper place in the itinerary. Leave time after your swim to shower, dress slowly and ease into the evening, rather than racing from the pool to a dinner reservation.
Check your chosen package before booking, as Pool Club access is included in some stays and available separately with others. Day passes are also offered. If travelling with children, consult the current age limits and session times when choosing your visit.
You will find the details on the Pool Club page.
From the mountains to the dinner table
An afternoon in the fresh air does wonderful things for the prospect of dinner.
At Restaurant Liv, the food takes a Mediterranean direction, with seasonal produce, herbs and olive oil bringing a different warmth to the mountain setting. We would make this the evening to book a table, dress for the pleasure of it and let dinner take its time.
For something more casual, Liv Bar offers pizza and oysters, with a terrace for days when the weather invites you outside. ROA is the place for a drink by the fire and an evening that might include a friendly game.
Across the road, Rambler brings an alpine influence, with seasonal menus ranging from pinsa to winter fondue.
Check the restaurants and current menus before your stay, particularly if you have dietary requirements or a specific evening in mind.
Discover SKØN while you are here
A holiday purchase can be wonderfully personal. Something chosen without the usual hurry, with time to consider how it feels and where it might fit into your life at home.
You can discover SKØN Skincare in Fýri’s shopping selection. For us, it is a pleasure to be part of a destination where the enjoyment of small details belongs so naturally to the stay.
Our approach to skincare begins with carefully considered ingredients and extends to the experience of using them: comforting textures, delicate scents and care that feels good on the skin. There is something satisfying about bringing that attention into an ordinary evening, long after the suitcase has been unpacked.
Take a moment to explore the selection during your stay. A skincare purchase might become the most frequently enjoyed reminder of the trip.
Beyond the hotel in Hemsedal
Give Hemsedal some of your time, too. The surrounding landscape offers plenty of ways to build a day around fresh air, whether your preferred pace involves a valley walk, a mountain trail or something more energetic.
During the hiking season, the Hemsedal Top20 programme provides marked summit routes of different lengths and difficulty levels. Choose according to your experience and the conditions, rather than the photograph you would like to bring home.
For a different kind of outing, consider Rjukandefossen, a powerful double waterfall near Tuv. A short woodland approach leads towards the falls, making it an appealing excursion when you want to see more without committing to a full mountain day.
Our preferred balance would be one main outing, followed by enough space to enjoy being back at the hotel. There is no requirement to return from a holiday with a completed checklist.
A different reason to visit in every season
Winter brings skiing, while the warmer months open up opportunities for walking and cycling. Fýri’s activities guide is a useful starting point for planning, with equipment rental and seasonal experiences available through the resort.
For a ski trip, check the lift and piste conditions for your dates. The hotel describes a lift connection to the ski area, while the return run depends on seasonal opening.
Outside winter, ask the team which routes suit the weather and your level of experience. A local recommendation can make the difference between a pleasant walk and a day that demands considerably more than you had intended.
There is also nothing wrong with choosing a short outing because you have plans for a long lunch.
How to plan your stay
Fýri is located at Totteskogen 55 in Hemsedal. The hotel estimates a drive of around three hours from Oslo and four from Bergen. Travelling by rail involves reaching Gol and arranging the onward journey to Hemsedal.
Use Fýri’s travel and contact information as a starting point, then check current connections and allow extra time for winter conditions.
We would suggest three nights if your diary allows it: time to arrive, a day to explore and another to enjoy the resort without watching the clock. For a shorter break, reserve your preferred dinner and Pool Club session ahead of time.
Pack layers, suitable outdoor footwear and swimwear. Then leave a little space in the bag for something you discover along the way.
Explore rooms and stays at Fýri and check exactly what your chosen package includes.
A little more time before you leave
The pleasure of a mountain escape often lies in the hours around the main event. Breakfast before anyone is in a hurry. A shower after a day outside. The moment you settle beside the fire and realise there is no reason to get up.
At Fýri, those hours deserve room in the plan.
Come for the landscape, make time for the pool and let dinner last. The mountains will still be there in the morning.
