What is actually meant by the term anti age?

Anti age - Learn more about the concept here

Whether you want to look 10 years younger or simply accept age-related changes, the skin needs optimal care. All processes in the body slow down as we get older, but let’s focus on the skin and what happens when it ages.

What happens to the skin?

Simplified, all processes take place at a slower pace. This is of course true throughout the body, but here we zoom in on the skin and what actually happens when the skin ages. When we are young, the skin looks fresh and clear; it is firm and can almost have a radiant glow. This is because the formation of cells happens at a constant rate. Cells are shed and new ones arrive quickly, so the skin therefore always looks fresh and clear. With age, this constant cell formation slows down. A steadily declining level of skin cells means that the total number is reduced, so over time there are fewer cells to retain moisture. Therefore, the skin becomes drier and thinner and at times completely parchment-like.

Age-related changes take place in all layers of the skin

Connective tissue, true to its name, connects the body’s organs, tendons, and tissues. In our younger years, this is firm and cohesive. But the tissue also loses its strength and becomes less elastic and ultimately is responsible for the slackness the skin gets and is what causes wrinkles.

Can you do anything?

Yes, plenty. If you are younger and reading this text, the best advice is: prevent and protect! This applies equally to your choice of skincare and makeup as well as your lifestyle in terms of food, sleep, alcohol, smoking, and sun. But this text is not a raised finger—lifestyle plays an active role in how we age.

Are you at the point where age-related changes are underway?

Then now is the time for your skincare to be more targeted toward these challenges, which are listed below:

  • Slower processes
  • Dry skin
  • Thin skin
  • Lack of glow
  • Lack of suppleness

So how can we approach it?

Slower processes:
Here, the slower cell renewal requires a good exfoliation 1–2 times a week. But because the skin is thinner and its defense therefore not as resilient, it is important that you only use an exfoliator with rounded grains that exfoliate without scratching. Here we have developed our Crystal Face Peeling, which can help you remove dry skin while also being nourishing.

Another important thing when we talk about slower processes is the transport of waste products. Maybe you are familiar with puffy eye areas or that the skin in general is less radiant. Here, Gua Sha Metal is fantastic. It is used by scraping it over the skin in upward strokes. The cooling metal is good for accumulated fluid around the eye. It generally helps increase blood circulation so you can transport waste products away faster. The result is glowing skin. See our Gua Sha massage guide.

Thin and dry skin:
Here it is especially important  that you use a cream with barrier-building actives and healthy oils that can protect the skin. Because when the skin is thin, the barrier is “damaged,” and therefore this becomes central in your continued anti age care when it comes to prevention. In addition, a barrier cream  helps the skin so it can better retain moisture. Both of our face creams are double-barrier anti age creams. Repair Microbiome Day and Night.

Lack of glow and suppleness:
When there are fewer skin cells to retain moisture in the skin, the skin becomes dull more quickly in the outermost layer. Therefore, it is important that care both helps to retain and increases moisture in the skin. That is why we have developed Restoring Serum Oil, which contains a seaweed extract that works in the same way as hyaluronic acids, but is extracted from seaweed. It retains and increases moisture. It is used under your night cream.

But the skin’s suppleness is also declining. Here, a fantastic tool is Face Yoga, where you train the facial muscles. We have 97 facial muscles, all of which benefit from being activated and trained. As they become stronger, it will help with the firmness of the musculature itself.

Lack of suppleness and glow can be helped along by face oils. They sit for longer just under the skin’s surface and work their way in slowly and are absorbed gently throughout the day. They help optimize the skin’s glow, boost it, but also improve comfort and suppleness in the skin. Here we can warmly recommend our Baobab Face Oil, or Silky Smooth Serum Oil, which is patted on top of your day cream.

Beautiful skin does not depend on age and wrinkles, but on glow and health
When we define what beautiful skin is, it is unquestionably its glow and health. It is not whether we have wrinkles or not—we actually think wrinkles can be beautiful, especially when the skin is radiant. Therefore, when we develop anti age care, it is the skin’s glow, health, comfort, and suppleness that are central. The goal is that your skin should glow beautifully, and that the products work protectively and rebuilding—and of course it should be via natural raw materials and ingredients.
